Active Dundee and Dundee Stroke Exercise Club (DSEC) have a uniquely placed partnership. The Physical Activity & City Sports teams work closely alongside DSEC which allows the provision of an excellent Stroke Rehab programme and pathway.

The partnership first began where Margaret Mitchell, in her role with the NHS, was the driving force to reshape the way in which recovery from Stroke was delivered.

It all started with one class at Douglas Sport Centre. A class which fast became a pillar of the recovery process and a class which helped users to improve their quality of life, many of whom are still engaged with the programmes now.

A partnership was proposed, whereby Active Dundee and DSEC would work together to deliver classes whilst retaining elements of 1:1 through the support of volunteers.

The programme continued to grow with the addition of several other classes, all contributing to their own story. From people moving their hand for the first time, to standing for the first time, or learning to walk again to walk daughters down the aisle, these classes have helped so many people. Without the partnership, so much of this wouldn't have been achieved.

DSEC recently celebrated their 15th birthday and Active Dundee were delighted to host the event at Douglas Sports Centre and celebrate with them.

The partnerships ambitions are still growing and further plans are being developed to extend support to those affected by Stroke.
