Active Dundee members and customers are being encouraged to get on their bikes this September as leisure centres across the city go head-to-head in support of local children's charity Help for Kids.

Active Dundee has partnered with Help for Kids and the Rotary Club of Claverhouse to take part in the Dundee Cyclathon through a month-long Centre vs Centre cycling challenge, running from 1 September to 2 October.

The challenge will see participants across seven Active Dundee venues contribute towards their centre's total by cycling kilometres on gym bikes. Distances will be recorded throughout September, with centres competing to achieve the highest combined total by the end of the month.

Taking part are Olympia, DISC, Douglas Sports Centre, Lochee Swimming & Leisure Centre, Harris, Grove and St Paul's Swim & Sport Centres.

Weekly leaderboards will be published to encourage friendly competition and celebrate progress throughout the challenge.

In addition to clocking up kilometres, participants and visitors will be able to support Help for Kids through donation points located within participating centres and via online fundraising links. Funds raised will help the charity continue supporting children and young people across Dundee and Tayside.

Scott Urquhart, Head of Sport and Physical Activity at Active Dundee, said:

"This is a fantastic example of what can be achieved when local organisations come together behind a shared goal. By partnering with Help for Kids and the Rotary Club of Claverhouse, we're combining the power of physical activity with community fundraising to make a real difference for children and families across Dundee. We know our members love getting behind good causes and this challenge gives them the opportunity to support a remarkable local charity."

Stacey Wallace, Help For Kids Charity Manager, said:

"Help for Kids is delighted to launch our Cyclathon campaign in partnership with Rotary Club of Claverhouse and Active Dundee. As a local charity, we rely heavily on the generosity and support of our community, and we're incredibly grateful to Active Dundee for embracing the challenge across all seven centres throughout the city.

We hope people of all ages will get involved, have fun, get fit and help raise vital funds to support local children who need it most. Every mile cycled and every pound raised will make a real difference."

Malcolm Horner, spokesperson for Rotary Club of Claverhouse, said:

"The Rotary Club of Claverhouse has organised the Cyclathon for more than 20 years, but we are no longer able to commit the volunteer resource needed to deliver the traditional one-day event. We are delighted that Help for Kids is keeping the Cyclathon alive in a new format, ensuring this much-loved community fundraiser can continue to benefit deserving children and young people across the Dundee area."

The Dundee Cyclathon Centre Challenge begins on 1 September and runs throughout September, with all Active Dundee members and customers invited to get involved, support their centre and help raise funds for a worthy local cause.

Whether you're aiming to top your centre's leaderboard or take on the challenge yourself, everyone is invited to get involved. Together, every mile cycled and every pound raised will help make a difference to local children and young people.
