The Active Dundee Sports Award winners 24/25 were unveiled at a glittering ceremony in the city's Apex Hotel on Saturday evening hosted by Leisure & Culture Dundee, the charitable trust that delivers leisure, sports, cultural and library services. This year, the awards have been re-branded as the Active Dundee Sports Awards in line with the recent launch of Active Dundee which is the new collective brand for leisure and sport services within Leisure & Culture Dundee.
The event brought together local athletes, clubs, schools, coaches and volunteers from across Dundee. The awards paid tribute to the success of our performance sports clubs, athletes and schools on the same evening and also celebrated clubs, schools and individuals that change lives through sport. They also praised the work that is taking place to provide sporting opportunities to more people in schools and communities across Dundee.
The awards opened with a fantastic performance from singers from Dundee Schools Music Theatre. The evening then welcomed presenter Bruce Aitchison, known for his 'Happiness Is...' podcast. Bruce was presenting the awards for the third year in a row and was full of energy as everyone celebrated sport from across the city. The Active Dundee team was also delighted to be joined by two inspirational athletes to hear about their sporting journeys. Current GB men’s rugby 7’s captain Kaleem Barreto and athlete Sheli McCoy, known to millions of viewers as the formidable ‘Sabre’ in BBC One’s Gladiators, shared with guests how sport has changed their lives.
Scott Urquhart, Head of Leisure, Sport and Physical Activity Service at Active Dundee said,
"The Active Dundee Sports Awards 24/25 were a huge success. It's all thanks to the hard work and passion of our colleagues, partners, volunteers and athletes dedicated to keeping sports alive in Dundee and beyond. We are proud to host the awards and celebrate the huge impact that sport has across the city. A massive congratulations to all the winners and shortlisted nominees, and a special mention to all the sponsors who supported the event to make such a great evening possible."
