As the Scottish summer approaches, it’s an increasingly busy and exciting time across the sport and leisure sector. At Active Dundee, we’ve been delighted to deliver and support a wide range of vibrant events across our facilities—bringing together communities, athletes, partners and participants of all ages and abilities.
HYROX Simulation 2.0 Kicks Off the Week

The week began on Sunday 31 May with our second HYROX Simulation event—and it proved to be bigger and better than ever. Building on the success of our first event, we expanded capacity to welcome 70 athletes, introducing Singles, Doubles and Team Relay formats to enhance both participation and competition.
HYROX continues to grow rapidly across Dundee and the wider UK, attracting a diverse range of participants keen to test and improve their fitness. For those inspired to get involved, Active Dundee offers a range of training programmes and group classes to support both beginners and experienced competitors.
Following the success of this event, HYROX Simulation 3.0 is provisionally scheduled for August 2026—so now is the perfect time to get training and be part of the next challenge.
Celebrating School Sport Success

On Tuesday 2 June, the Regional Performance Centre hosted the Angus Secondary School Sports Championships. The event welcomed 400 pupils, supported by 30 PE staff and 10 Active Schools staff, representing eight schools competing across a full programme of track and field events.
Held in excellent conditions, the championships showcased the energy, talent and commitment of young athletes, with Arbroath High School emerging as overall winners for 2026.
Marking Global Running Day

Wednesday 3 June saw Active Dundee celebrate Global Running Day with a unique “Bandit Style” 5K challenge at the Regional Performance Centre. Open to both members and non-members, the free event welcomed runners of all abilities.
The “Bandit” format added a creative twist—participants started at staggered times with the aim of all finishing together, creating a shared and exciting race experience. The event attracted 30 runners and highlighted the outstanding facility available for both recreational and competitive running within Dundee.
With running continuing to grow in popularity, plans are already underway for a 2027 Global Running Day initiative, including a Couch to 5K programme designed to support new runners on their journey.
Celebrating 15 Years of the Stroke Exercise Club

On Saturday 6 June, Active Dundee were proud to host a very special milestone event at Douglas Sports Centre, celebrating the 15th anniversary of the Dundee Stroke Exercise Club.
This long-standing partnership, originally driven by Margaret Mitchell in collaboration with NHS colleagues, has played a vital role in transforming stroke recovery pathways within the community. Over the years, the programme has expanded to include a range of supportive classes, each contributing to remarkable personal achievements.
From regaining movement and independence to life-changing milestones such as walking unaided or taking part in important family moments, the impact of the programme is significant. This anniversary was a celebration not only of longevity, but of the powerful outcomes that partnership working can achieve.
International Karate at the RPC

Also on Saturday 6 June, the Regional Performance Centre hosted the WUKF Scottish Karate Championships—one of the largest competitions of its kind in Scotland.
The event welcomed over 420 athletes from six countries, representing 32 clubs. Delivered in partnership with Kanzen Karate, part of the Kanzen for Life charity, the championships showcased high-level competition across all age groups and abilities, including inclusive categories for those with disabilities.
The event also provided a welcome boost to the city, with visiting athletes and supporters enjoying their time in Dundee over the weekend.
Urban Moves Summer Showcase

The week concluded on Sunday 7 June with the Active Dundee Urban Moves Summer Showcase—a vibrant celebration of dance and creativity at the Regional Performance Centre.
More than 250 young dancers performed across two packed shows, entertaining an audience of over 580 family members and friends. Each group presented routines inspired by summer themes, reflecting the skills, confidence and creativity developed through the programme.
Led by Active Dundee’s Dance Development Officer and a dedicated coaching team, the showcase highlighted the energy, individuality and progression of participants, creating a lively and uplifting atmosphere to close a fantastic week of events.
